Pulsatile nasal irrigation improves Nasal Muco-ciliary Movement Attention: Please read the following carefully before using the pulsatile warm saline nasal irrigation to avoid probable complications or side effects that may happen. 1. Nasal bleeding or epistaxis: avoid nasal washing when nasal bleeding happened. Nasal bleeding usually is caused by mechanical trauma, like picking or blowing the nose. The nasal bleeding is stopped when the damaged wall of the vessel or capillary is clogged with blood clot. Pulsatile warm saline nasal irrigation might wash out the clogged blood clot and induce nasal bleeding again. So it is highly suggested to stop pulsatile nasal irrigation when nasal bleeding. You can re-try pulsatile nasal irrigation at least 24 hours after nasal bleeding for mild nasal bleeding or consult your doctor for more severe or complicated nasal bleeding. 2. Stuffy nose or nasal obstruction: avoid nasal washing when severe nasal stuffiness If the nose is severely blocked that the salt water cannot pass through, the pressure built up inside the nasal cavity will cause headache or even ear pain at the beginning of the irrigation. Stop the irrigation immediately, and compress the nose with warm towel for several minutes to relieve the nasal obstruction. Try nasal irrigation only when the nose is not completely blocked.¡@ 3. Breathe via the mouth instead of nose to avoid choking The salt water enters into the nose and make a U turn at the posterior end of the nasal chamber to flow out from the other nose. So it is important to breathe via the mouth instead of nose when washing the nose (or temporarily stop breathing when washing the nose ) to avoid choking. 4. After surgical care: consult your doctor when can you start the nasal washing There maybe some tamponade or packing in the nasal chamber or sinus cavity in nasal/sinus surgery, or even the surgery might damage the wall between the sinus and eye or brain. So you should consult your doctor to see if it is permitted to flush your nose and when can you start to rinse your nose after surgery. Pulsatile warm saline nasal irrigation is very helpful for the after surgical care to remove the secretions and promote wound healing. 5. Eustachian tube dysfunction: consult your doctor before usage Eustachian tube located at the side wall of the posterior end of the nasal chamber, it is usually closed while opened when swallowing, yawning. The Eustachian tube connects between the middle ear cavity and the nasopharynx to equilibrate the middle ear pressure. The salt water will not enter into the middle ear cavity via the Eustachian tube if the E-tube is closed when the salt water makes a U-turn at the posterior end of the nasal cavity ( nasaopharynx ). Please consult your doctor before usage of pulsatile warm saline nasal irrigation if you have poor Eustachian tube, for example: cleft palate or patulous Eustachian tube. 6. CSF rhinorrhea: avoid usage to prevent probable meningitis Salt water nasal washing is prohibited for CSF rhinorrhea patients, because it may induce the potential complication of meningitis.¡@ 7. Kid usage: parents should guide the usage by kid. Parents should guide and instruct the kid usage of pulsatile nasal irrigation to avoid unexpected accident. 8. Common electrical safety You should follow the common electrical safety because the pulsatile nasal irrigator is an electrical medical device. Please read carefully before usage the part in FAQ for more questions you may have for using the pulsatile warm saline nasal irrigation. ¡@ ¡@ |
